Year 7 trip to New Brighton

On Thursday the 11th of July the whole of year 7 went on a  field trip to New Brighton.  Linking to the work they had been doing in class on ‘Plastics’, they met with the organisation, ‘Surfers Against Sewage’ to look at the rubbish and specifically the plastic that is washing up on our Wirral Beaches.  Speaking to the representatives the students heard how every day approximately 8 million pieces of plastic pollution find their way into our oceans and of the research that they have carried out in the UK, plastics consistently make up 60 to 90% of all marine debris studied. Once in the system, students have been shocked to discover that some plastics take 450 years to biodegrade! Armed with their litter pickers they got to work, getting praise from the public and the lifeguards on duty for their efforts. The students were fantastic and the beaches now a lot cleaner thanks to their efforts.  If you want to learn more about how to help please check out; or join one of the UK wide beach litter picks.
