What subjects do the students study in KS4 at Pensby High School?
Pensby High School encourages all students to follow a broad and balanced curriculum in Key Stage 4 and we have endeavoured, within the constraints imposed by the National Curriculum, to offer as wide a choice of subjects as possible. The National Curriculum requires students to study all the subjects from the following lists:
All these subjects are externally examined
- Mathematics
- English
- Science
In addition the following areas are studied:
- Physical Education
- ICT / Computer Studies
- PSHE/RSE; which includes Work Related Learning, Sex Education, Careers Education
- Ethics & Philosophy (RE)
Entitlement Curriculum or Options
In addition to the compulsory subjects referred to previously, students are also provided with access to an Entitlement Curriculum. At Pensby this means they can choose to study up to three subjects (all leading to a full qualification) from the following:
- Modern Foreign Languages (Spanish)
- Design Technology (Hospitality & Catering)
- Arts (Art & Design, 3D-Design, Drama, Graphic Communication, Music, Photography, Sports Science)
- Humanities (Citizenship, Ethics & Philosophy, History, Geography)
- Commerce and Society (Business & Enterprise, Child Development, ICT, Media Studies)
- Triple Science (Leading to qualifications in Biology, Chemistry and Physics)

Citizenship is delivered through Votes for Schools, Geography in Year 8 and History in Year 9.
SMSC, British Values and Careers Education Guidance is run through our PSHE schemes of work and forms part of our curriculum enrichment days.
